Syl was born in Wichita, Kan. He proudly served the country that he loved in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he worked for William "Bill" Lear, founder of Learjet. Later, he worked for FlightSafety International from 1967 to 1980.
In 1980, he joined Combs Gates-Denver as a salesman of pre-owned corporate jets and later with Jack Prewitt & Associates in Bedford. In 2002, he started an aircraft brokerage business (Stroot Aviation Inc.), facilitating corporate jet sales worldwide.
He was preceded in his death by both of his parents and grandparents.
Survivors: Mary Stroot; their children, Carla Dalton and David Stroot; two brothers; two sisters; and five grandchildren.
