Mrs. Catherine L. Chen, 85, of Blue Ridge Summit, widow of Frank L. Chen, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug 29, 1989 in the Waynesboro Hospital. She had been in failing health for several years and was last admitted to the hospital after becoming critically ill on Aug 21.
Born July 3, 1904 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Tracey and Mary Alice (Kinsel) Barlup.
She lived her early life in Waynesboro, and she had lived in Blue Ridge Summit for the past 45 years. Her husband died in December 1967.
Mrs. Chen was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Tressler of Blue Ridge Summit, Mrs. Patricia Wustner of Kaysville, Ut, and Mrs. Constance Carson of Gettysburg; one son Robert L. Chen, Twenty-nine Palms, Ca., 13 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Grove Funeral Home, with Pastor James Roth officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
