In 1866, Tol purchased land from his father-in-law near Maywood in Lincoln County, and there he and Emily would remain for the rest of their lives. Tol and Emily were the parents of seven children: Alice, Sampson, Elizabeth Ellen, Sophia, Pauline Hiram, Maud, and Anne Logan.
Tol engaged in farming. He was a Master Mason, and served several terms as constable in Lincoln County.
Tol died at his home, and is buried in the family cemetery located on his land.

"Douglas.- N. Peyton Douglas, aged 72, died at his home near Maywood on the 15th of locked bowels and was buried in the family grave yard. He leaves four daughters, but his wife had been dead some years. His brother, Peyton Douglas, died a month or two ago"
(* note - the paper incorrectly identified him as N. Peyton Douglass).
