Mr. Abernathy had resided in Sikeston since 1942. For many years he was a taxi cab driver.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of St. John's Baptist Church here.
Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Josephine Abernathy; sons, John T. Abernathy, Theopolis Heard and Sherman Heard; daughters, Fronie Willis and Ellen Pettigrew; brother, Jimmie Johnson; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Friday at St. John's Baptist Church here. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston.
