MEADOWS, JAMES OTIS
James Otis Meadows, 91, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, November 26, 1995, at Briarcliff Health Care Center. Mr. Meadows was a retired clerk with the U.S. Postal Service's railway mail delivery. An Oak Ridge resident for 36 years, he formerly lived on Packer Road. Born September 2, 1904, in Ayers, KY, he was the son of Jacob Stephen and Sarah Higgenbotham Meadows. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1922 to 1926 and was a 1935 graduate of Berea College. Mr. Meadows was a member of Central Baptist Church and enjoyed wood carving according to the family. His wife, Lina Elaine Meadows, died May 21, 1995. Mr. Meadows is survived by five daughters and three sons-in-law: Emily and Walter Blake of Elyria, OH; Amy and Doyle Cole of Powell, Joan Flynn of Sunman, IN; Sue and John Rupf of Atlanta, GA; and Carol Teague of Oak Ridge; four sisters: Lela Herrell of Middlesboro, KY; Jewell Potter of Louisville, KY; Christine Stinchcomb of Crossville; and Geraldine Patton of Los Angeles, CA; and by 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. David Meadows officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Marlow. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
