Mr. Blake spent his early days in Worchester, and attended Dr. Payson's celebrated school, "from which he graduated with the highest honors of his class." He practised as a physician for a short time in Petersham, (Mass?), and in 1799 settled in Farmington Falls, Maine. He is said to have been a ripe scholar, and possessed those strong virtues acquired during the troublous times in which his early life was spent." (History of Farmington, Me.)
