Neosho Daily News, Jan. 20, 2000:

Jerry C. Newton, 68, Neosho, died at 9:09 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Freeman Neosho Hospital emergency room following a sudden illness. He was born Aug. 4, 1931 in Newtonia and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Granby High Shcool in 1949. He attended Joplin Junior College and Missouri Southern State College in Joplin. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a supervisor at Teledyne until 1974. He coached men's fast pitch and slow pitch softball games and played slow pitch softball. He coached girl's softball teams and loved to hunt and train bird dogs. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and loved gospel music. He attended church at Calvary Baptist in Neosho.

He married Janet K. Adams July 10, 1954, Neosho. She survives.

Additional survivors are three sisters, Dorothy Campbell, Tulsa, Ok., Nana Charles, Joplin, and Mona Alderman, Carl Junction.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Brock and Thelma Garner and three brothers, Marvin Newton, Cad Newton and Cloyce Newton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Hedger and the Rev. Fred Franks officiating. Burial will be in Neosho IOOF Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Friday at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
