Lucille Mary Schaffer, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of West Point, Iowa, passed away at 4:37 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Born May 7, 1921 in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of George Anthony and Leona Marie (Schierbrock) Schaffer.

Survivors include her one sister Ruth Kendall of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, two nieces Kate Kendall and Mary (Charlie) Gudenkauf, three nephews Larry (Jeanette) Kendall, Jim (Cindy) Kendall and Tom (Patty) Kendall, six great nieces, one great nephew, one great-great niece and one great-great nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Lucille was a 1938 graduate of St. Mary's High School in West Point, Iowa and a 1941 graduate of Ottumwa Heights College. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa and a charter member of St. Ann's Circle Daughter's of Isabella. Lucille worked at Schierbrock Grocery for thirty five years and the West Point Library for twelve years. She served at St. Mary's as lector, CCD instructor, chair person for child care during masses and the calling committee. Lucille volunteered at the Marquette Elementary School in Houghton and babysat for many children in West Point.

Friends may call and meet with the family from 9: 30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 in the Ossenbrink Center next to St. Mary's Church. A Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa with Father Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in West Point, Iowa.

Memorials may be made in her memory to St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church .
