James C. Blackmore, 87, of Columbia passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at Memorial Funeral Home with burial following at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

James was born on March 21, 1923, in Bluffton, the son of the late Marvin and Carrie Miller Blackmore. He married Joan Capps Blackmore on Aug. 19, 1945.

James and his father owned and operated Blackmore Automotive Inc. He became a 32nd-degree Mason and was an Odd Fellow member, attaining 50 years in each organization.

His love of travel led to joining two motor home clubs. For 25 years, he, his wife and his dogs traveled each summer. He especially enjoyed his family, home and many friends.

James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan; son Mark Blackmore and wife Lisa; daughters Jan Pink and husband John, Nancy Boast and husband Waymon, and Teresa Hemen and husband Bob; granddaughters Anna Whatley and Jennifer Pink; grandsons Daniel Whatley and wife Nicole, Jason Pink, Isaac Stroupe and Kellen Stroupe; and great-grandchildren Mikayla Pink, Sharife Pink and Brianna Flowers.

James was preceded in death by parents, Marvin and Carrie Blackmore; and his sister, Margaret Schaperkotter.
