Lawrence Clarey Waring, born at Greenville, Ohio, January 25, 1861; grew up on his father's plantation near Columbus, Lowndes County, Mississippi. He settled in Indiana at an early age and was employed in railroad offices in Bluffton, Fort Wayne, Hartford City, and Marion, lastly at Bluffton as a railroad telegraph operator. In 1903 he settled at Decatur, Indiana, and established the Waring Glove Company, a highly successful business, with eventually plants in Rochester and Huntington as well as Decatur. Mr. Waring had various other businesses and was director of the First National Bank of Fort Wayne and the Old Adams County Bank of Decatur. Mr. Waring was a Mason and Knight Templar and a member of the Episcopal Church. He died unmarried at Decatur on June 1, 1932.
