Lifelong Riverhead resident Alan R. Benjamin died April 3 at his home. He was 80.

He was born in Riverhead Oct. 13, 1929, to Roselle and Georgianna (Downs) Benjamin and attended local schools before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Joan Voss in Riverhead on Aug. 28, 1954.

Mr. Benjamin was a lineman with LILCO for over 35 years, retiring in 1989. He was a past chief of the Riverhead Fire Department and an active department member for 59 years. According to his family, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating.

Predeceased by his wife in 2003, Mr. Benjamin is survived by his daughters, Linda Ogeka of Quogue, Barbara McPherson of Texas, Laurie Punda of California and Patricia Contino of Flanders; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead, with firematic services in the evening.

Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
