Elmer E. Russell of Iberia, Mo., passed away Saturday, August 17, 1974 at the Miller County Nursing Home near Tuscumbia, Mo. Mr. Russell was born October 8, 1885 in Miller County near Iberia, Mo., the son of John and Mary Elizabeth (Moss) Russell. He was united in marriage on June 16, 1907 by Rev. Robertson to Dora Adeline Slone who preceded him in death on December 20, 1920.

Mr. Russell lived in Miller County most all of his life with the exception of a few years spent in Maries County. He was a farmer and laborer and was a member of the Freedom Christian Church.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; seven brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Clara Harvey of Iberia, Mo., Mrs. Jessie Stites of Belle, Mo. and Mrs. Ruby Watson of St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Herman Russell of Vienna, Mo. and Jennings Russell of Iberia, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, at the Stevinson ‘Chapel in Iberia, Mo. with Rev. Perry Wolfe and Rev. Gary Gulley officiating. Interment was in the Freedom Cemetery under the direction of the Stevinson Funeral Home of Iberia, Mo. Pallbearers were Richard Stites, Alf Lee Vineyard, Daniel Russell, James Russell, Leonard Russell, Ronald Russell and Tim Russell.

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill.

Today we talked where others cried
For loved ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies
Snatched from the arms of loving kin
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where GRANDPARENTS lay
In the last sleep of their time
Lying under the trees and clouds
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where MOM and DAD lay
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past
To be preserved for generations hence
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Elmer and Dora also had a daughter, Jessie nmn "Jay" Russell Stites and a son named Herman Oscar Russell b. 1916.
