Galveston Daily News, Tuesday, 15 March 1898, p3 c2:
"The Death Roll."
"This afternoon at 1 o'clock occurred the death of Charles E. Dwyer, a lawyer of this city. He had been in bad health for some time, the result of which was his death at the hour named. He was born in New Hampshire, September 29, 1842 and came to Texas in 1870. For several years he was a train dispatcher on one of the leading roads here. From that he drifted into the newspaper business in the editorial department. From that he took up shorthand and then got into the law, which business he was engaged in up to the time of his death. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his death. He was a member of the George H. McClellan post of the Grand Army of the Republic, and stood high with his comrades. He was a man of unusual mental attainments and was possessed of a broad mind and warm heart, in viewing the conditions and shortcomings of his fellow men."
