Lenora Eula May Howell passed away peacefully in her sleep at LaSalle Nursing Home on Friday, May 2, 2008, after a brave battle with a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Howell was born in Ball, on January 20, 1921, to Herbert and Sami Odelle Ferguson May. Shortly after graduating from Clarks High School in 1939, she married Elon Birdie Howell and moved to Houston, Texas. She served as an employee of Hughes Tool Company there for 35 years before retiring and moving back among family in LaSalle Parish.
Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her husband, Elon Howell, her parents, Herbert and Odelle May, two brothers, Robert Kidd and Foy Herbert May, and one sister, Odelle May Jones. Survivors include six sisters: Marjorie May Fulton of West Monroe, Birdie May Foster of Monroe, Elva May Massingill of West Monroe, Rosemary May Streetman of Cameron Park, California; Joyce May Bradford and husband George of Jena; and Carol May McDougald of Olla. Surviving brothers are Everett May and wife Elizabeth of Somerville, Texas; and J. Houston May, Sr., and wife Beth of Jena.
Mrs. Howell also leaves behind a host of more than 50 nieces and nephews from such far-flung places as Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oregon, Texas, France, and Japan.
Under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home, services were held graveside at 2 p.m. Sunday May 4, at Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church in Williana, Louisiana. Pallbearers were Hunter Bradford, Richard Fulton, Allen Jones, Jr., Jerry McDougald, J.Houston May, Jr., Herbert Otwell, Jo Lynn May Herring, Lenora Bradford Jones, and Beth Ann Maxfield.
