Elon Berty Howell, 80, of Jena, died Thursday, February 21, 2002, at the St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was a retired engineer in the oil field, a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner and a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. He was born March 11, 1921 in Grant Parish to the union of Robert Neely and Nancy Ellie Smith Howell.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, Feb. 22, at Liberty Chapel Cemetery at Williana with Rev. Bobby Dunn officiating. Interment followed at Liberty Chapel Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.
Survivors include his wife, Lenora May Howell of Jena; and one sister, Iva Lea Howell Elliott. Pallbearers were Jay May, Sr., Jay May, Jr., Elon Hunter Bradford, Jerry McDougald, Chester McDougald and Herby Otwell.
