The death of Mrs. D. R. Young occurred last Wednesday afternoon April 8, 1908. Mrs. Young sustained two years ago one and since then two strokes of paralysis and the third attack happened on Tuesday after which she seemed to rally, but passed away the following day.
Mrs. Young was 74 years of age, being born December 31, 1833, in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, moving to Ohio with her father and mother several years later, and in 1855 was united in marriage with D. R. Young, who died in 1883, in this county. In 1856, Mr. and Mrs. Young came to Iowa, moving to a farm south of Manchester, where they made their home until the death of Mr. Young, since then making her home with her son D. R. Young of this city. Three children were born to them, who survive her, D. F. Young, Mrs. T. S. Doty and Mrs. W. A. Richardson of this city and an adopted daughter, Mrs. C. O. Richardson of Waukon Junction.
Mrs. Young was one of the pioneer women of this county, and as a devoted wife and mother, won the esteem of the community, as well as living a consistent Christian life, being a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. The funeral was held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the home of her son, D. R. Young, and was in charge of Rev. J. E. Wagner.
