Samuel Chester Young was born in Upper Caldicote, Bedforshire, England. He was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the year 1856. He emigrated to the United States on a sailing vessel called the "Empire", landing in New York City, on 21 Mar 1858. He emigrated to Utah, arriving in Salt Lake City on 1 Sep 1859. He married Jane Ann Evans on 7 Oct 1861 and eventually settled on a farm at Willow Creek (later named Willard), north of Salt Lake City. He became the father of 11 children, 86 grandchildren and 71 great grandchildren at the age of 88 years. He died in Corinne, Utah at the age of 97 years and was buried in the Brigham City Cemetary along side his wife, who died 23 Nov 1914 in Perry, Utah.
