My 3rd Great Grand Uncle.

Son of John & Emily (Dearborn) Knights.

Brother of Ellen O & Leonard.

Grandson of Martha (Demeritt) Dearborn.

5 year old George drowned in Paugus Bay 2 days after his father John enlisted in the NH Volunteer Army to fight in The Civil War.

A diary entry from Lakeport resident Mrs. J. Jewett:

August 18, 1862

"Geo. Knights, son of John Knights was drowned at Lake Village yesterday while playing in a boat in the bay near Dea Blaisdell's.
This shows plainly to us that it is wrong to walk out ourselves or allow our children to play out in the Sabbath."

George was named after his Uncle, George Winthrop Dearborn.
