George W. Saint

Of the early history of Bro. Saint but very little is known to your committee. But from the data furnished, we find that Bro. Saint was born some time in December, 1838; he was of Quaker parentage. In youth he was converted and united with the M. E. Church in Henry county, Iowa, a short time after he was granted an Exhorter's license, and with much zeal, labored to bring souls to Jesus. When the cry of his country called fur strong arms and brave hearts to defend her, he rushed into the ranks, fought on through the three years and then enlisted as a veteran. Shortly after his return to Henry county, a careful examination of his heart showed that he was too far away from God. Then he sought and obtained a blessed nearness to Jesus, or of which went tie path that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

Some little time after this he moved to Decatur County, Iowa, where he was licensed as a local preacher, and as such he labored till September last, when at Chariton he was admitted on trial into Des Moines Conference, and appointed to Exira charge, where he labored efficiently till shortly after his fourth quarterly Meeting, when by a short and rapid sickness, he took his departure to the land of rest. Peacefully he passed away, saying to his friends that the river was not deep, nor were its waters chill, but there was a great company with songs of triumph marching with him. A. J Andres.
