OBITUARY

Mrs. Anna Ackerson

Mrs. Anna Ackerson, born June 27, 1845, at Kronobergs Lan, Smaland, Sweden, died Feb. 9, 1931 at her home at Stratford. She was 85 years, 7 months and 13 days old.

She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran church in Sweden, her maiden name being Anna Felleson. In 1867 she came to America locating at Moline, Ill. There she affiliated herself with the Lutheran church and in 1869 was united in marriage to Mr. Swan Ackerson. Mr. Ackerson had arrived from Sweden in 1868 locating at Moline also.

In 1878 they moved to their farm east of Stratford where they resided until 1917 when they moved to Stratford. They purchased a home here making it possible to spend their retired years in closest vicinity to their church, the Stratford Lutheran. To their church Mr. and Mrs. Ackerson were sincerely true and faithful until their death. Mr. Ackerson's departure being mourned in 1923.

Mrs. Ackerson was the mother of eight children, three of which were daughters and five sons. The daughters are Mrs. Robert Engnell, of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Albert Engnell, of Boone; Miss Emma Ackerson, of Stratford, who has most tenderly cared for the mother through all her years of illness. To this most devoted care which this daughter has given the mother these last 30 years the other children want to express their deep recognition and joy. The sons are Fred and Walter Ackerson, of Fort Lupton, Col.; Oscar and Emil, of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Clarence, of Fort Dodge. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren besides relatives and a host of friends.

She was a faithful wife, a loving mother and a kind neighbor. She has been a constant sufferer and frail for several years, never being able to be around much among her friends. But she had always borne her suffering with Christian patience, living a life of faith and trust in her Savior. The word of God and prayer was a daily part of her life, often being heard reading the Bible and praying. These last years because of her weak eyesight her greatest joy was to have her near ones or her pastor worship with her. She had a joy in Christ and her assurance of the forgiveness of sins and life eternal was very evident. As she closed her eyes in the final sleep she spoke in child like joy of her heavenly home, her death passing over her as a very quiet sleep.

Note: Anna was born June 27, 1845, the daughter of Felle Andersson and his wife Lisa Johansdotter, at Mistelås, Kronoberg, Sweden.
