**Some people have the spelling of her maiden name as "Gilchrist" Per parents cemetery marker is "Gilchriest". My G'mother, Grace Gilchriest Goosic, Maude's sister, insisted it had the "e" in the name.

Realize her stone gives her Birth year as 1889, however all family records have 1888, 1900 Census has birth as Aug. 1888- S.S. is the only record that has birth being 1889. So for the present time, I'm leaving it as 1888.

NEWSPAPER OBIT.(Alma Paper- Aug 2, 1990)
Mrs Maude Scott Gilchriest Montonye was born the sixth child of twelve children to Robert Scott Gilchriest and Mrs. Mary Jane Nickleson Gilchriest on August 14, 1888 at Indianola, Iowa. She departed this life Saturday afternoon, July 28, 1990 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma, Nebraska. Her age was 101 years, 11 months and 14 days.
Maude came to Nebraska with her mother on the train, while her father and her older sisters came in a covered wagon. They settled near Beaver City, Nebraska. She started school at a country school near Beaver City, and when she was seven years old, moved to Stamford, Neb. with her parents, where she had attended rural school six miles south of Stamford.
On February 12, 1913, Miss Maude Scott Gilchriest was united in marriage to Howard Montonye at the court house in Alma, Neb. To this union, one daughter, Leta Leona, was born January 3, 1919. She preceded Maude in death with pneumonia in 1935 at the age of 16 years. They made their home 4 miles east of Long Island, Kansas until moving to Green Forest, Ark. in January of 1914. After the death of her father in the fall of 1915, they moved back to Long Island. They resided in the Long Island and Woodruff, Kan., communities until 1925 when they moved to a farm ten miles north and 5 miles east of Phillpsburg, Kan..
In November of 1934, Maude and Howard became born again believers at the Englewood Wesleyan Church in that area. In 1939, they moved to Alma where they became members of the Congregational Church which later became the Alma Evangelical Free Church. In 1970, they moved to Beaver City, where they attended the Free Methodist Church, returning to Alma in 1975, residing at the Parkview Manor until moving to the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Dec 1979. After returning to Alma, Howard and Maude attended the Alma Evangelical Free Church until the steps became a problem; they later attended the Free Methodist Church until their health no longer permitted. Since entering the Colonial Villa, Maude had regularly attended all spiritual events.
In addition to the death of her father and daughter, Maude was preceded in death by her mother in 1949; her husband Howard, March 15.1984; five brothers, Robbie in infancy, Robert in childhood, Charlie, George, and Teddy; six sisters, Vi Gilchriest, Mrs Mae Quinn, Mrs Dane Criddlebaugh, Mrs Nanny Thalheim, Mrs Faye Day and Mrs Grace Goosic.
