TEMPLE - Funeral for Betty J. Douglass, 78, Temple, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel in Walters with Bro. Jay Driskill officiating.
Mrs. Douglass departed this life Saturday, April 3, 2010, in Temple.
Burial will be in Temple Cemetery.
Betty Jo Dunnagan Douglass was born Sept. 19, 1931, in Ardmore, to Lloyd Leonard and Gladys (nee Teeples) Dunnagan. Betty grew up in the Devol and Randlett area. She married Cecil Swinney and to the union a daughter, Joyce, and a son, Stephen, were born. Betty made her home in Burkburnett, TX, until moving to Temple around 1960. She married Howard Douglass in 1962, and to this union two sons: Sammy and Chuck were born. Through the years Betty enjoyed having a yard full of kids, writing poetry, keeping a journal, playing games and cooking full meals for whoever might show up. She also loved spending time with her grandkids.
Survivors include a daughter Joyce (Mike) Leaf, Temple; five grandchildren: John Dale Brown, Chad (Shelly) Brown, all of Doddridge, AR; Stephen (Lucy) Leaf, Comanche; Stephanie Baker, Midwest City; and Hannah Douglass, Wichita Falls, TX; five great-grandchildren: Cody, Connor and Cooper Brown, and Brooklyn and Taylor Baker; a sister-in-law, Carol Dunagan, Temple; other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard in 1995; three sons: Stephen Swinney in 1976; Chuck Douglass in 1998; and Sammy Douglass in 2000; a sister, Louellen Pirtle; and a brother, Lloyd "Junior" Dunagan.
