Younger Thomas/Tarpley Flynt was the son of Pendleton Flynt (1811-1839) and Elizabeth Ann Pitts (1806/09-1882). He was the grandson of Richard Perry Flynt (1776-1851) and Martha Paddy Halbert (1782-1868), and Pittman Pitts (1784-1855) and Mary C. Andrews (1792-?).

Younger married Parralee Louvina Denton Willis on 7 September 1865. The children born to this marriage were Hiram Peter (1867), Robert C (1868), Molly (1869), Joseph h (1872), Younger Edward (1875), John James (1876), Annie M (1879), Oscar (1883), and Tommie (a girl 1886/87).

There is a controvery concerning his middle name. Some Flynt family researchers have knowledge that Paralee had referred to her husband as Younger Thomas and a 1948 obituary of son Younger Edward Flynt referred to his father as Younger Thomas. However the will of Perry Flynt refers to him as Younger Tarpley.

Y.T. Flynt died in 1913 and is buried next to his wife Paralee in Stewart Cemetery, Fayetteville, Lincoln County, Tennessee.
