Mrs. G.P. Gloyd
Mrs G. P. Gloyd, a resident of Spencer and vicinity for forty five years passed away at the home in this city shortly after midnight Sunday. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy following a prolonged illness.
Ruby Leanor Benton, daughter of Samuel and Ellen Benton, was born in Benton county, Illinois on June 10, 1868. At the age of fifteen years, she came to Iowa with her parents where they homesteaded near the town of Terrill, Iowa
On January 23, 1887 she was united in holy matrimony to Gurdon P. Gloyd at Spencer, Iowa and to this union ten children were born; Mrs J.E. Dennis of Mason City, D.L. Gloyd of Butte, Montana, Mrs F.A. Simpson and Alfred E. Gloyd of Dunden, Illinois, Mrs J.A. Waggoner of Cash, S.D., G.P. Gloyd Jr., Mrs D.R. Marble and MRs. Grace Conte of Spencer. One son, Harry, passed away in infancy. She also leaves to mourn her loss an aged father, several brothers and sisters and twenty-two grandchildren.
Because of her kindly disposition and her unfailing solicitude for the welfare of her family, which was ever her first interest, her passing will be keenly felt.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Cobb Funeral Home at 3:30. Rev. B.J. Trickey conducted the services. All members of the immediate family were in attendance. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery beside her husband who preceded her in death five and half years ago.
