Levi & Clarissa moved to Walworth Co, Wis in 1840 & began merchandising in Delavan, where they stayed for some years & then moved to Dalton. later they moved to Rockford, Illinois where he bought a farm & also a homestead..Later they moved to Lawrence Co. Ks near Council Grove. Levi & Clarissa owned & operated 24 farms in different states--their last in Clay Co., Ia.totaled 1000 acres.
Following information taken from the Wabaunsee (Waubunsie) County, Alma, Kansas in 1956, by Grace Rindsig:
Grandpa Gloyd's farm, 160 acres, bought from Isaac Johnson & wife August 1 ,1881 - $800.00 NW 1/4 14-14-8.
sold April 23 1894 by heirs of Levi Gloyd, to George Biglin, for $1800.00 - - -
the legal papers signed by D.C. Gillespie, who was given Power of Attorney by uncle A.E. Gloyd, Uncle Jim Gloyd, & Josie, Aunt Florence & Uncle Alba, Aunt Fan & Uncle Dan and Pa & Ruby L Gloyd.
The farm, about a mile west of the Alta Vista cemetery where Grandpa Levi Gloyd and our baby brother, Harry Gloyd (at his feet) are buried. Farm now in name of A.F. Schraeder: 1/3 mile south of Alta Vista, 1/4 mile west, then full mile south.
Grandpa bought the farm in 1881 - going down to Kansas form Clay Co.,Iowa, when the grasshoppers had "cleaned out" most of the farmers in the Spencer area. He died in 1883 - - - Our father & mother were on the farm in the late 1880's - some letters written in 1889 from them, in Alta Vista, to Grandma Gloyd, staying with Uncle Dan & Aunt Fan Gillespie in Spencer. Grandma died in 1891 & buried in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
