Aliceage 73, of Broofield, died peacefully in her sleep at the Lighthouse of Brookfield memory-care residence from complications of Alzheimer's disease just a few days before her 74th birthday. She was born to Thomas & Margaret (Litchfield) Denton. During childhood she lived in a number of different places, following her father's career as mining engineer: at a mining camp on Vancouver Island, then in Tucson, AZ, and later in Carlsbad, NM. Her high-school years were spent in Bethesda, MD. As a young adult, Alice danced with the Boston Ballet Company. In 1955 she married Charles Wittler (former husband) in Bethesda, MD. They later moved to Columbus, OH where she started a ballet studio, while raising her three daughters. They then moved to Champaign, IL where she opened another dance studio. Even though she was busy raising a family, her love of dance, people and music continued to be an important part of her life. While in Champaign, Alice returned to college to obtain her bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation. Her other accomplishments included starting a youth employment agency to help teens that were under the age of 16 find work. She also started an after school program titled GRASP, Greater Reach After School Program, which gave latchkey children a productive yet fun place to spend the afternoon. In 1983 she settled in the Milwaukee, WI area and created a program called "Arts in Motion," to enrich the lives of developmentally disabled persons through music, dance, and drama. Because of this, she is remembered gratefully by many families who knew her under her previous name, Alice Wittler. She was married to Wayne Fehr, an Episcopal priest, in 1997. Most recently she was a member, along with her husband, of Trinity Episcopal Church in Wauwatosa. Alice will be remembered as living life to its fullest. Her wonderful sense of humor and playfulness always brought joy to people wherever she went. She is mourned by her husband, the Rev. Wayne Fehr, and her daughters Carol Pearson (husband Randy), Jan Wittler and Julie Solomon (husband Jerry), as well as her grandchildren Chris and Jessica Pearson, Andrew Lemieux, and Alex and Chris Solomon. She was preceded into the next life by her father Thomas Denton, her mother, Margaret Litchfield Denton, her brother, Thomas Denton Jr., and her sister, Ethel (Denton) Groos. Funeral Services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Wauwatosa. Inurnment followed in the columbarium of Trinity Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring Alice may be sent to the Lighthouse of Brookfield, 16720 W. Greenfield Ave., Brookfield, WI 53005 or to the Alzheimer's Association. Becker Ritter Funeral Home, Brookfield assisted with arrangements.
