MRS. S.J. TROUT PASSES AWAY
WAS A MOST DEVOTED WIFE AND A GOOD MOTHER
Esther Jane Smith, Daughter of Jesse and Mary Smith, was born at Monroe City, Iowa January 1, 1857 and peacefully passes away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Wartick, near Camp Point, Sunday afternoon, May 23.1920 at 3:50 o'clock, at the age of 63 years, 1 months and 23 days.
She was united in marriage to Samuel J Trout August 18, 1881, at Camp Point. To this union were born seven children, John T., of Newton Kansas, Nina Gray, of Camp Point; Myrtle Holmes, of Galva, Kansas; Elva Geibert, of Camp Point and Edith Wartick, near Golden, and Gladys Brown of Peoria, and one son Harry dying in infancy. Besides the bereaved husband and children she leaves to mourn her loss, two brothers, Henry and Jesse, of Columbus; two sisters, Louisa Collier, of Okeene Oklahoma, and Angeline Ashcraft, of Wellington Kansas. Her parents and one brother preceeded her in death.
She was a devoted wife and mother, a kind and loving neighbor always ready to lend a helping hand. She lived a faithful Christian life, having united with the Columbus Christian church in girlhood, later taking membership with the Christian church in Camp Point, being a faithful attendant as long as health permitted.
Through all her suffering she was patient to the last, ever mindful of the deeds of kindness bestowed upon her and often expressing her willingness to respond to the call of her Master
She has gone from amongst us,
From this world's toil and care,
She has gone to her Savior
And dwells with him there.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. A. Omer, assisted by Rev. W.C. Greer, from the Christian church. Rev. Omer paid a fine tribute of respect to and old time friend. Mrs. W.B. Grove, Miss Mollie Garrett, Alvin Garrett, and Foster Grove sang two beautiful numbers. Internment was at Evergreen Cemetery.
