Jerry "Buttercup" Terry
Gaffney, SC - - Jerry "Buttercup" Reed Terry, 78, formerly of Twin Bridge Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Peachtree Centre. Born in Dallas, NC, he was the husband of Patsy Sparks Terry and the son of the late Julius Reed Terry and Agnes Green Terry. He retired as owner/operator of Terry's Diesel, was a Mason, and was a member of Gaffney Free Will Baptist Church. He loved dirt track and Nascar racing, owned cars and raced at Cherokee Speedway until retirement. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Roger Terry and wife, Cheryl of Gaffney; two daughters, Rita T. Koone and husband, Hicks and Peggy T. Lewis and husband, James, all of Gaffney; two brothers, James "Moon" Terry and wife, Shirley of Gaffney and Johnny Terry of Lockhart, SC; a sister, Laura Wade and husband, Steve of Chester, SC; five grandchildren, Shawn Holmes and husband, Jeff, Brooke McCumber and husband, Reid, Rachel Easler and husband, Brian, Michael Terry and April Terry; six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Frances House, Barbara Black, Margaret Inman and Marlene Spencer. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, April 9, 2010 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Gaffney Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Tolley and Rev. Bill Vanderford officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Senior Centers of Cherokee County, 499 W. Rutledge Avenue, Gaffney, SC 29341 or Peachtree Centre, 1434 N. Limestone Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.
