Mr. Southworth died yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. D.G. Curtis. Mr Southworth was born Oct. 30, 1817 at Duxbury, Mass. He served for a number of years as captain on the seas and in that capacity had visited many foreign lands.
He went to California in 1849, where he remained for several years. From California he returned to Iowa, where he remained for some time, and from which place he came to Spearville in the spring of 1878. His wife died about two years ago. Funeral services will be conducted at the home this afternoon at 3 o'clock, after which the remains will be laid to rest in the Spearville cemetery.
