W. S. Ware, Jr.
Mr. William Slaughter Ware, Jr., oldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Ware, Sr., of Gloucester, died Friday, May 14, at his home in Norfolk, of appoplexy(sic). Mr. Ware was nearing his 45th birthday. He is survived by his wife and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Hattie Starke, Norfolk; Mrs. Silver Sugg, Norfolk; Mrs. Betty Clements, West Point; Messrs. Slaughter, Bartow and Hughes Ware, of Norfolk, and Mr. Walter H. Ware, of Gloucester.
Funeral services were held at Providence Church Sunday, being conducted by Rev. R. A. Folkes and Rev. W. B. Lee, and interment was in the Providence cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. J. H. Martin, J. E. Cox, S. W. Field, H. A. Wolfe, J. M. Lewis and W. C. Stubbs, Jr.
Mr. Ware was born in Petersburg, Va., but lived in Gloucester many years before moving to Danville, Va., and later to Norfolk. Here he served as Deputy Clerk under the late Mr. A. T. Wyatt for a number of years and made a wide circle of friends by his genial disposition and sterling qualities, to whom his death comes as a personal loss.
