OCTOBER 6 — Mabel Thomas Higgins, 90, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. She was the daughter of Enoch and Rushie Bailey Thomas of Mars Hill, North Carolina, and the widow of Ernest Fred Higgins.
She spent most of her adult life in Virginia where she enjoyed her home, family and serving the Lord. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Sheppards.
Mrs. Higgins is survived by a daughter, Doris Loveday of Pamplin; ten grandsons, David Loveday and wife, Jenette, Danny Loveday and wife, Linda, Dale Loveday and wife, Deanna, Christopher Rush and wife, Carmen, Kevin Banton and wife, Patsy, Ernest Banton, Eugene Banton, Jimmy Banton, Kenneth Banton, and Scott Runion; three granddaughters, Lisa Long and husband, Rob, Guyanna Ackison and husband, Brandon and Daphne Whitehurst; son-in-law, Guy Runion of Dinwiddie; 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; three daughters, Frances Rush, Barbara Runion and Shirley Banton, as well as a brother and a sister.
Services were held at Concord Baptist Church on Sunday with the Rev. Rick Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice.
