Death of Thomas Adams

Mr. Thomas Adams, well known to our citizens, died a little after midnight Wednesday night. He had been complaining of ill health for about a year, but had only been confined to his bed for a short time. His disease was diabetes. His age was 47 years. Mr. Adams was a good citizen, and a quiet unassuming man. He enlisted with the Hundred Days men, and served faithfully. Was postmaster of Findlay from 1872 to 1876, and filled the position honorably and creditably. He was both a painter and a printer, and was engaged in this office when the first copy of the Jeffersonian was printed. When the Great Proof Reader revises Tommy's record, may it be formally free from errors and mistakes, and entitle him to the reward of a perfect register. Funeral tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock from the residence on East Sandusky Street.

From this article, you would believe that Thomas died on March 3, 1886. Or if you take it one more step, you might think that "a little after midnight Wednesday night", really means Thursday, March 4, 1886. But the FWJ is a weekly newspaper and it just might be a week behind, which would make his death date as either Wednesday, Feb 24, 1886 or Thursday, February 25, 1886.

The Maple Grove Cemetery Records:
Date of Death: 2/26/1886
Burial Date: 2/26/1886

The cemetery records do not support the newspaper article on Thomas E. Adams, as far as his death date. February 26, 1886 was a Friday. It does support the part about the funeral tomorrow afternoon. It is not very often that a person is buried on the same day that they die.

Hancock County Death Records:
Thomas E. Adams died February 26, 1886. That is a Friday.
Married
Age At Death: 47 years, 10 months, and 11 days.
Born/Died: Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio
