James D. Bland, 21, 713 East Fifth Street, well known
young Pana man died about 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, of injuries received when his motorcycle hit a car on Rt. 96 east of Nauvoo in western Illinois.
He was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison,Ia., where he died of internal injuries about an hour after the accident.
Illinois State Police report says be was passing a car driven by Kathy A. Wilkins, 17, of Nauvoo,Il.
She had slowed down to make a left turn. As Bland was passing, the auto started turning left. The motorcycle hit the car at the left front. Bland was thrown into a state sign post and never regained consciousness.
Bland was with a group from Pana who were riding 5 motorcycles to Fort Madison to see a rodeo. With him were his brothers, Mike and Richard Bland, Hank Starman and Bob Burgess and his son. They had camped out overnight prior to
continuing their trip into Fort Madison.

James Dale Bland, 21, of 713 East Fifth street, Pana, died at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Fort Madison, la., of injuries received earlier that morning in a motorcycle accident.
He was employed with the Bland Concrete Construction Company of Pana.
Mr. Bland was born in Pana Mar. 13, 1953, a son of the late Clarence Bland and Mrs. Ida Mae Sims Bland of Pana. He was married to Bonnie Russell, who survives. Mr. Bland was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Pana. He was a veteran of the U.(S. Air Force and was presently serving in the Air National Guard.
Surviving besides his wife and mother, a daughter, Stephanie, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sims of Pana; brothers, Richard, Mike, Rodney and Kenneth, all of Pana; sisters, Mrs. Karen Suey of Oconee and Kathy Sue Bland, Pana; half-brother, Raymond of Princeton; a half-sister, Mrs. Margaret Cloe of Pana.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, in the First United Pentecostal Church, Pana, with the Rev. Arlie Mulvaney officiating.
Burial will be in Price Cemetery, Oconee.
Friends may call at the McCracken Funeral Home after 4:00 p.m., today, Monday, then at the church after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday.
