Funeral services were held Saturday, June 17, 3:30 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church, for S. J. Pepper of Sikes, who died at a Jonesboro clinic early Friday, June 16, after suffering a paralytic stroke the previous Saturday.

Mr. Pepper had lived most of his life in the Midway Community. He was a member of the Midway Baptist Church and of the Masonic Lodge. He was 81 years and three months of age.

Rev. Leon Ivy, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church, conducted the services with interment in the Friendship Cemetery with Masonic rites at the grave.

Mr. Pepper is survived by his wife, Mrs. Della Campbell Pepper, of Wyatt; nine children, Elisha Pepper, Rawson Pepper, and Mrs. Nita Wyatt of Marshall, Texas; Voyle Pepper, Kilgore, Texas; Grady Pepper of LaSalle, Ill.; Mrs. Joe Dark, Mrs. Charlie Boyd, and Floyd Pepper, all of Jonesboro; and Walter Pepper of Wyatt; one brother, Z. Z. Pepper of Sikes and a sister, Mrs. Laura Sikes of Alexandria. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
