Utica, inn. - Verne W. Harcey, 74, Utica, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn. He retired from farming in St. Charles township in 1968 and had served as township assessor 17 years and 16 years as a member of District 25 school board of rural St. Charles Minn.
The son of Frank and Lela Heath Harcey, he was born near Utica, May 4, 1903. He married Hazel Smith at Decorah, Iowa, June 17, 1930. She died in January 1974. He married Ruth Smith Aug. 18, 1974. He was a member and and elder of First Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member of Modern Woodman of the World Lodge, Winona; member of Evergreen Masonic Lodge 46 A.F. & A.M., Clyde, Minn., member of Royal Arch 19 and Order of the Eastern Star, St. Charles.; the Southeastern Minnesota Citizens Action Council senior nutrition board; the senior citizens group, retired senior volunteers of Utica, and in 1977 was named one of two outstanding senior citizens if Winona County
Survivors are: his wife, two sons, Ronald, Shakopee, Minn., and Philip, Okabena, Minn.; one stepson, Kenneth Dorn, Egan, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Charles (Diane) Amato, Sacremento, Calif., and Mrs. Jan Ruff, Mt. Rush, Ill.; 14 grandchidren, and one brother, Ralph, St. Charles. One son, one brother and one sister have died.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, The Rev. Donald Drury officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
