1800 he was in Illinois (then Indiana Territory), in St. Clair and Randoph County. Name on memorial to Congress referred to 12 December 1804, some coming to this area because their families were captured by Indians and by ransom obtained them back.
1810 - Appointed as Lieutenant of St. Clair County Militia
1812 Served at Camp Russell (see book "Soldiers in the Black Hawk War, Book 1831-1832) under Major William Pruett, 3rd Btn., Shoal Creek County, Sixty-nine men, Captain Valentine Brazle, Capt. Isaac Griffin, Captain Nathaniel Journey.
1816 was first settler in Ramsey township, Fayette County, Illinois. He and his family built a log cabin in a section of Ramsey, with the first school being built in an adjacent section.
The name of the mother of his children is not known at this time, however she may have died in 1821 or 1822 following the birth of a child.
In April 1824 he married Mrs. Nancy Journey in Fayette County, Illinois.
