Mrs. Alice Bea (Bailey) Johnston, 93, of Benton, KY, passed away Monday, May 18, 2015, at 5:06 a.m. at Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, IL. She was a member of Sharpe Church of Christ, where she was one of the original members of its present location at 7707 U.S. Hwy 68 West, Benton, KY 42025.

Born Monday, March 27, 1922, in Marshall County, KY, she answered the call during World War II to move to Evansville, IN., where she and her sister worked as Riveters during the war effort. She and her husband Bruce moved to Paducah where they lived, worshiped, and raised their family. In 1971 they returned to the Sharpe Community.

Surviving are sons: Mike Johnston (wife Rowena) of Paducah, KY, and David Johnston (wife Doreen) of Murray, KY; daughter; Jan Dixon (husband Dr. John H. Dixon, Jr.) of Franklin, TN; five grandchildren: Trent Johnston (wife Keri) of Gallatin, TN, Jennifer Greene (husband Dwayne) of Tega Cay, SC, Michael Johnston of Paducah, KY, John David Dixon (wife Stephanie M.) of Nashville, TN, Adam Dixon (wife Stephanie L.) of Nashville, TN; nine great grandchildren: Alysia Johnston, Aaron Johnston, and Hannah Johnston, all of Gallatin, TN, Aniston Greene and Aiden Greene of Tega Cay, SC, Benjamin, Levi, Caleb, and Jesse Dixon of Nashville, TN, and two great great grandchildren: Carson Birmingham and Jaylin Reasonover of Gallatin, TN.

During her lifetime, she enjoyed homemaking, sewing, quilting, gardening, oil painting, crafts of all kinds, and traveling with her husband to area gospel singings. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Clivy and Lena Belle (Phelps) Bailey, her husband of 61 years, Robert Bruce Johnston; and sister, Arlena Bailey DeMotte.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sharpe Church Of Christ, Sharpe, KY. Mike Fields will officiate. Congregational singing will be led by her son, Mike Johnston.

Friends may visit with the family Friday, May 22, 2015 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY 42025. Visitation will also be held on Saturday at the Sharpe Church of Christ from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1:00 p.m.

Interment will follow in Sharpe Church of Christ Cemetery, Sharpe, KY.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to New Pathways for Children, 3311 Shaw Road, Melber, KY 42069.
