Shrewsbury-Michael L. Syslo, 68, of 17 Howe Ave. died Thursday in The Medical Center of Central Massachusetts-Hahnemann, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife, Florence (Glaudel) Syslo; three sons, Michael J Syslo of Chimark, Allen T. Syslo of Coventry, R.I., and Mark S. Syslo of Boxboro; a daughter, Kristine M. Squeo of East Greenwich, R.I.; three brothers, Leonard Syslo of Vista, Calif., Joseph and Ben Syslo, both of Bellevue, Neb.; three sisters, Ann Syslo and Claire Kosiba, both of Omaha, Neb., and Dorothy Pfiefer of York, Neb.; four grandchildren, and nephews and nieces. Another daughter, Katherine Syslo of Los Angeles, died in 1989. Mr and Mrs. Syslo were married June 15, 1950. He was born in Tarnov, Neb., son of Joseph L. and Sophia (Torczon) Syslo, and came to Massachusetts about 1957, Ge kuved here many years.
Mr. Syslo graduated from Columbus High School in Nebraska. He attended St. Bonaventure's Seminary, Sturtevant, Wis., and the University of Nebraska. He earned a bachelor's degree in foreign service from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., in 1950. Whilel at Georgetown, he was president of the senior class and vice president of the Student Council. He attended Georgetown University Law School. Mr. Syslo was an Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a meteorologist in the European-African-Middle Eastern theater. He served in the Azores and Newfoundland. Mr. Syslo was regional director for Mobil Chemical Corp., Petrochemical Division, in Worcester, where he worked for 30 years. He retired in 1987. He was previously plant manager for Rexall Chemical Co. in Holyoke for six years. During the 1950's, Mr. Syslo was a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C., Chicago and New York City.
Mr. Syslo was a member of St. Anne's Church, Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, the Worcester Wine Society and the Society of Former FBI Agents.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 7 to 9 tonight. Flowers may be sent, or memorial contributions made to the Salvation Army, 29 Charles St. Worcester, 01614.
