William Sidney "Sid" Mercer, age 68 of Seguin, passed away on April 4, 2010.

He was born June 28, 1941 in Sonora, TX to Henry Dial and Edna Lee Mercer. Sid grew up in Hondo where he learned about conservation, farming and ranching. He graduated from Hondo High School. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Range Management from Stephen F. Austin State University, Sid started working with the USDA-Farmers Home Administration. He later retired from USDA but stayed very active in the ranching business.

He married Linda Sue Tondre on December 4, 1959 and recently they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Sid and Linda owned ranches in Medina, Gillespie and Guadalupe County. Sid shared his love and respect for the land and cattle with his family, grandchildren and neighbors. He taught all how to work hard and how to play hard.

He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Dial Mercer and daughter, Angelyn Michele Mercer.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Linda Sue Mercer; children, Doug Mercer and wife Nancy and David Mercer and fiancé Janet Schultz and children; grandchildren, Amy Mercer, Kyle Mercer, Cade Mercer, Michaela Mercer, Sondra Lehmann and Stefan Schriewer; mother, Edna Lee Grunewald; brothers, Richard Mercer and wife Lisa and Jimmie Mercer and wife Paula and sister, Penny Menk. Serving as pallbearers include D.L. Schraub, Fred Graff II, Robert Graff, Tim Dudley, Travis Watkins, Wes Tubre and John Corder. Honorary pallbearers include Chuck Tondre, Kiley Hardy, Vincent Ney, John Hardy, Fred Graff, Richard Epting, Richard Morris and Dean Berry.
