William Samuels was killed in the Scofield Mine disaster. This was an unparalleled catastrophe here on the Utah frontier or anywhere for that matter. 107+ widows resulted and 250+ fatherless children resulted. Many little kids were given up for adoption. Where would a widow turn for help in those days? (William's birth date did show as 1864). Each dead miner received a new suit of clothes, a coffin and a wonderful outpouring of flowers from towns all over Utah. It is a heart warming story, "the flower train". I think it a wonderful feature for a novel. Too bad the story is true. Alas, oh alas.
