"Jerry" was the son of Jud Oviatt and Elise "Elsie" Day.

He was the brother of Leila Arlene Dispenza and Stanley Stephen, and half-brother of Marjorie De Lille Massaglia and Marie De Lille Burke.

Jud was inducted into the US Army at Glendale, California on Jan. 9, 1941. He served with the 524th Engineer Topographical Company, attaining the rank of Technician Fifth Grade. Jud was discharged at Fort MacArthur, California on Dec. 14, 1945.
