Dr. Carl Eakin John, DVM, born in Lewis County, WV, a son of James Milton John and Louisa Eakin John. He had three sisters: Florence Myrtle John Hutton, Grace John Skinner and Lola Victoria John Chidester, and one brother, Harvey Eri John.
Aug 14, 1911 he married Hattie Beryl Lake of Fairmont, WV. They had three children: Ruth John Griffin, Maude Louise John, and James Hugh John.
He graduated from Chicago Veterinarian College and went in practice in Upshur County, WV from 1913 until 1922. The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and the WV Dept. of Agriculture employed him until 1939 when he began his private practice in Lewis County, WV. He was a 50-year member of the WV Veterinarian Medical Association of which he served two terms as president.
He was a member of the Gamma Chapter Alpha Psi Fraternity of North America, a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and a member of the Weston Lodge 10, AF & AM.
“Doc” John is buried in the Broad Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Lightburn, Lewis County, West Virginia.
