Arvella Shelton passed away Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at her home in Bethany, OK with her family at her side at the age of 94. Born Aug. 11, 1910 In Midlothian, OK to Oscar and Etta Conner Manning of Chandler, OK. Married Gilbert Shelton April 25, 1936. She was the oldest of 8 children. Attended high school in Chandler, OK and was the first in her family to attend college. She received a lifetime teaching certificate from Central State Teachers College in Edmond, OK. Received her Bachelor of Science in 1956 and her Master of Science in 1959 from OK State University where she was on the Honor Roll. Her first 21 years of teaching elementary public school included Earlsbough, Midlothian, and Kickapoo. In 1958 she taught at Progress School in Perkins before moving to Bethany, OK in 1960 where she taught at Council Grove in the Western Heights School District until her retirement. She also taught Sunday School at Tulakes Baptist Church for many years. She is survived by two children, Charles Shelton and wife Patricia and Lorna Shelton Harrison both of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Gary Shelton and Jana, Michael Shelton, Brian Shelton of OKC and Randy Shelton of Chicago. Steve Harrison and Teresa of Redondo Beach, CA, Rhonda Harrison Kriesman and Allen of Euless, TX, Curtis Harrison and Tera of Plano, TX. Twelve great grandchildren Garrett, John, Crystal, Ryan, Michaela, Alex, Tabitha, Austin, Jake, Sydney, Colin and Karissa. And numerous nieces and nephews for whom she had great love and affection. Also survived by two brothers, Eldredge Manning and wife Doris of Grand Prairie, TX and Jack Manning and wife Norma of Chandler, OK. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Gilbert, two sisters Dolly Theis and Jane Schoenecke, and three brothers, Bill Manning, Egbert Manning and Lon Manning. Arvella was a great advocate for children's learning in their early years and wanted to see them off to a good start. She was a loving devoted mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister and aunt. The center of her life was her family and her church. She was uplifting to everyone in her life. Funeral services will be at the Mercer-Adams Funeral Chapel, Wed., Dec. 22, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery, Edmond, OK. MERCER-ADAMS
