WHICKER RITES ARE HERE SUNDAY

Funeral services for James F. Whicker, age 87, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Memorial chapel of the Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. P. W. Murphy in charge. Burial was made in the New Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Lynn Falling and Mrs. Lloyd Haskins sang "In the Garden" and "Near the Cross." Mrs. P. W. Murphy accompanied them at the piano. Pallbearers were: Edd Greenwood, Jimmy Doley, Earl H. Evans, Boyce Gaston, Jake Forter and Harry Levan.

Whicker, an Oklahoma pioneer, had resided near Cushing for about ten years. He died at his home, east of Cushing Friday afternoon after an illness of three months.

Survivors are his wife, three daughters, one son, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Aged Man Dies East of Cushing At Davis Chapel

Funeral services for James F. Whicker, age 87, who died at his home east of Cushing Friday afternoon at 2:40 o'clock after an illness of three months will be held today.

The last rites will be held at 2:30 o'clock in the Memorial chapel of the Davis funeral home with Rev. P.W. Murphy in charge. Burial will be made in the New Zion cemetery under direction of the H.A. Davis funeral directors.

Born in Moulter county, Illinois, September 23, 1853, (born 1853 Washington Co., VA) Whicker came to Oklahoma in 1909 and homesteaded in Cimarron county. In 1931, he moved east of Cushing, where he resided until his death. He had been retired for the past few years.

Surviving relatives are: His wife, Mrs. Florence Whicker; three daughters, (Pearl) Mrs. J. L. Harrod, Weston Colorado; Mrs. Wilma Colvin of Los Angeles, California; (Flora) Mrs. Arthur Taylor of Chase, Kansas; one son, Fred Whicker, Gould, Colorado; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other relatives.

James Franklin Whicker was the son of Samuel Whicker and Elizabeth Ann Spurgeon Whicker. He was born in Moulter County, Illinois on September 23, 1853 and died near Cushing, Oklahoma February 14, 1942. Whicker came to Oklahoma in 1909 and homesteaded in Cimarron County. In 1931 he moved east of Cushing where he resided until his death.

Note: Family knowledge says he was born in Moulter Co., IL. However I can find no support for this. He is found with his parents in Washington Co., Virginia and that is where he appears to have been born....Mary
