Josiah Porter married Amelia Ann Parks on 28 April 1850 at Dallas County, Texas officiated by Samuel Clark, Minister of the Gospel. There were two children born to this union - Frances "Fannie" May Porter, b 1852, and Amelia Ann Porter, b 1853. She preceded him in death in 1855.

Josiah Porter married Rebecca Setliff Baker on 21 October 1858 at Ellis County, Texas. She preceded him in death in 1859.

Mrs. Beersheba Matilda Strong married Josiah Porter on 26 February 1863 at Ellis County, Texas. Four children were born to this union: James Porter, Clara Porter, who married David Rice Akin. Clara died in 1890 and to this union were born two children - William Porter Akin and Ada Leola Akin - David Rice Akin survived his wife; Ada E Porter, wife of W.E. Price; Ella J Porter, wife of T.J. Price.

B.M. Porter died intestate before the death of her daughter, Clara. Josiah Porter had been previously married.
