Gynell Anthony Baker, 87, of Maple Leaf Health Care Center, Statesville, formerly of Mooresville, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born May 6, 1917 in Lincoln County to the late Caswell Alonzo and Fannie Queen Anthony, Mrs. Baker was a retired seamstress with Troutman Shirt Company, Patterson Avenue plant in Mooresville.

She was a member of Dallas Church of God. She was married to Fred Lee Baker, who preceded her in death. A son, Joel Ray Baker, and a daughter, Brenda Ann Baker, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her children, Phillip L. Baker of Kinston, and Janice B. Nobles, E. Dean Baker Sr. and Doye G. Baker Sr., all of Mooresville; a brother, C.A. Anthony of Mooresville; five grandchildren, Todd Baker, Jason Baker, Dean Baker Jr., Doye Baker Jr. and Gina Covington; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 in the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. D.R. Shortridge officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, NC Southern Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
