Funeral services for John Frank Burke, who died at 12:50 o'clock at the home of his son, Jack Burke, 310 East Timmons Street, after an extended illness will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, from the Nolensville Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Rawls will officiate and burial will be in the Nolensville Cemetery. Born April 21, 1877, at Nolensville, in Williamson County, Mr. Burke was the son of the late John and Lizzie Irvin Burke. He came to Nashville in 1921 and served as turn-key at the Davidson County Jail under Sheriffs Louis Camp, Robert (Bob) Briley, Gus Kiger and Sam Shryer. He was employed as a guard at the State Penitentiary at the time of his retirement five years ago when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. He is survived by his wife, Mary Haley Burke, two sons Robert and Jack Burke, a daughter Mrs. Jessie Mai Burke Sealy and nine grandchildren. His nephews will serve as active pallbearers as follows: Walter and Billie Burke, Johnnie, Emmett, Joe, and Kirby Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Mayor Thomas L. Cummings, Bob Briley, Judge Chester K. Hart, Judge Charles Gilbert, W. J. Putnam, Sheriff Ivey Young, Sam Borum, Frank Bess, Henry Foster, Coley Davis, and Roy Parden.
