A Fritch man who was critically injured at the Colorado Interstate Gas Company's Sanford plant died early today in Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital.
Doyle Sanders, 24, of Fritch, died shortly after midnight this morning of extensive injuries he suffered in the Tuesday explosion at Colorado Interstate's Sanford Field Compressor Station west of Fritch, hospital officials said.
Mr. Sanders was the second fatality from the explosion that resulted from a pressure build-up in an eight-inch natural gas pipeline at the Sanford plant at approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Gaylan Anderson, 24, of Fritch, was pronounced dead on arrival at Northwest Texas Hospital at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The two men apparently were preparing to clean a filter in the pipeline, a normal maintenance procedure, when the line exploded, causing the filter cover to fly off and strike both men, Wayne Tiller of Colorado Interstate's Colorado Springs, Colo., public relations office said.
A team of safety specialists from Colorado Interstate is still investigating the explosion, Tiller said today.
"The investigation is continuing but we have no results yet," he said. He added that it will probably be sometime next week before the team finds out what caused Tuesday's explosion.
Services for Sanders will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Fritch with Rev. Ron Trussler, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Sanders, of Vinson Estates in Fritch, was a native of Tulsa, Okla., and a resident of Fritch for 16 years.
He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Sanders of Fritch; four brothers, Carl, Scotty and Terry, all of Fritch, and Steve Patterson of Prue Okla.; a sister, Sandra Trickey of Fritch; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.C. McCallie of Sand Springs, Okla., E.L. Sanders of Sand Springs and Mrs. O.A. Yarbrough of Prue. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Sanders, in 1969.
Pallbearers will be John Pat Daily, Ronnie Wyche, Bobby Campbell, Dusty Boyd, Don Malone and Johnny Turner.
