JOHN NACHAZEL DEAD; TAMA COUNTY PIONEER
Carroll Township Citizen Taken Suddenly Saturday at Home
Helped with Corn Husking Until Day or Two Before His Death
John Nachazel Sr., for sixty years a resident of Tama county, died at 8:30 last Saturday morning at the home of his son John, in Carroll township. His death was sudden and without warning. He had been ill during the summer but recovered. Only a day or two before his death he had felt able to help with the corn husking. He was taken ill Friday. A doctor was summoned early Saturday morning but, the patient lived only a few hours.
Mr. Nachazel was seventy-eight ears old. He was born in Bohemia October 4, 1846 and was seventeen years old when he came to this country with his parents. The family settled in York township. In 1875 Mr. Nachazel started farming on his own account on raw prairie land in Carrol township, and had lived there continuously since. He was married to Josephine Kubik, of York township who died in 1910. Seven children were born to the couple, five of whom are living. They are: John Jr. and Joe, of Carroll township, Mrs. J. G. Podhajsky and Mrs. Charles Podhajsky, of Perry township: and Mrs. Frank Hadacek, living near Dysart. Mrs. Albert Hanus, of Carroll, and James Nachazel, the latter of California, died in recent years. Besides the five children, several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mr. Nachazel is survived by a younger brother, Joseph, living at Chelsea. For nearly fifty years Mr. Nachazel was a successful farmer and leading citizen of Carroll, and owner of a large farm. He served as township trustee some years and was a member of the Catholic church. He was a fine old gentleman.
The funeral service was held at St. Vaclav church, west of Clutier at 10 o’clock Monday morning attended by a large crowd of friends and neighbors. Rev. Father Thomas Vopatek of Clutier had charge. Burial was in St. Vaclav Cemetery.
