Charles Baldwin Dies At Age 82
Charles William Baldwin, 82, of 2391 Kingsley Drive, died Sunday in a local hospital.
A retired businessman and local civic leader, Mr. Baldwin moved to Macon from his Morgan County birthplace in 1905. In 1921, after serving in the armed forces during World War I, Mr. Baldwin joined the McClure Office Equipment Co. He was named vice-president in 1928 and became president in 1938. In that year the name was changed to the McClure-Baldwin Co.
Mr. Baldwin was a Deacon at Tattnall Square Baptist Church and later the treasurer in Ingleside Baptist Church and a member of the Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church.
Mr. Baldwin was a 37-year member of the American Legion, a charter member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, a member emeritus of the Macon Masons, a member of the Rotary Club and the Elk's Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Hart Baldwin of Macon; two daughters, Mrs. Ben C. Fowler, Jr. and Mrs. H. Jammell Corely, both of Macon; two sisters, Mrs. L. E. Speir of Macon and Mrs. Clarence A. Dixon of Thomasville; six grandchildren.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
